A ROAS of 4x is the typical target for ecommerce (£4 revenue per £1 spent on ads). What counts as good depends on your margins. A 40% margin business might be profitable at 2.5x ROAS, while a 20% margin business might need 5x+. Always calculate your break-even ROAS before deciding if a campaign is worth scaling.
What is break-even ROAS?
Break-even ROAS = 1 / gross margin. If your margin after all costs except advertising is 40%, your break-even ROAS is 1 / 0.40 = 2.5x. Any campaign below 2.5x ROAS is losing money. This calculator shows your break-even ROAS alongside your actual ROAS.
