Frequently Asked Questions

How much should I tip at a restaurant?

Tipping norms vary by country. In the US, 15-20% is standard; 25% for exceptional service. In the UK, 10-15% is common in restaurants that do not add a service charge. In Australia, tipping is not expected but appreciated. Always check if a service charge has already been added to your bill.

Is tip calculated before or after tax?

In the US, it is common to calculate the tip on the pre-tax subtotal, though many people tip on the total including tax. Either is acceptable. In the UK and most of Europe, the bill total already includes VAT, and any tip is typically on that total.

How do I split a bill evenly?

Enter the full bill amount, select your tip percentage, and enter the number of people sharing the bill. The calculator shows the total including tip and the per-person amount. For unequal splits (one person had more), work out the individual amounts first, then add the proportional tip.

What is a good tip for food delivery?

In the US, 15-20% or a flat minimum of $3-5 is typical for delivery. For smaller orders, a flat amount is often more appropriate than a percentage. In the UK, delivery drivers appreciate a tip but it is not mandatory. Factor in distance and difficulty when deciding.
